James Robinson received his master’s degree (MaPs) in psychology at the Université de Moncton in 1978. Early in his career he worked briefly as a school psychologist. From 1979 to 1994, he practiced in both general and psychiatric hospital settings, where he was a clinician and also occupied the position of department head. He has been working in private practice since 1987, at the Clinic of Applied Psychology, which he co-founded, and he turned to full-time private practice in 1994. Together with his colleagues at the Clinic of Applied Psychology, he provides psychological services in the Moncton area and across New Brunswick. He offers psychological assessments, consultation, psychotherapy services and training/education.

James mainly works with an adult clientele in his general practice. His professional interests led him to train in Cognitive Behaviour Therapy (CBT), Reality Therapy (Glasser), debriefing, and Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR). In addition to his general practice, James has acquired an extensive experience with trauma victims and has participated in many group and individual psychological interventions in this context. He treats accident victims, and victims of harassment and of critical incidents among the general population. Police officers, Armed Forces personnel and veterans are also among James’s clientele.

James firmly believes in preventive treatment and his psychological treatments generally reflect this philosophy approach. With this perspective, he is a regular provider of workshops and presentations offered to the general public and also to more closely targeted groups (workplace, specific group, etc.). He also promotes psychological well-being in everyone by occasionally responding to media invitations.
