Children and adolescents can display emotional, behavioral, and/or social difficulties for various reasons. A comprehensive psychological assessment can lead to a better understanding of these challenges. It also provides parents and/or teachers the information necessary to implement effective strategies.

In the process of conducting a psychological assessment, the psychologist utilizes various assessment tools in order to understand the child, determine a clinical diagnosis, and offer recommendations. Assessment tools are chosen based on the child’s presenting difficulties.

Psychologists at the Clinic of Applied Psychology conduct assessments geared at understanding various issues or disorders. Here are a few examples, amongst others:
  • Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder (ADHD)
  • Specific Learning Disorders
  • Giftedness
  • Anxiety disorders
  • Mood disorders
  • Behavioral disorders (e.g., oppositional)
  • Social difficulties
